The following discourse is taken from an email exchange I had recently with a client regarding the afterlife.
Traditional religious imagery (and the significant emotional baggage it often brings with it) are sometimes difficult to reconcile when we are presented with another view of what happens when we cross-over.
Spirits who have fully crossed-over have told me repeatedly that they are happy with their experience.
(Yes, there are spirits who do not fully cross-over, for a variety of reasons. I will tackle that topic later).
When we cross-over there is a period of review and self-evaluation.
It can cause our soul to be happy or sad about the outcomes we had in the physical life we just left behind.
There is no judge and jury, but there are friends and counselors who review our life with us.
We determine where we messed up and how we might avoid similar situations and/or fix the damage we’ve done when we return for another physical life (reincarnation).
There is no Hell.
The worst things that will ever happen to us, happen in the physical realm.
There IS unconditional love on the other side.
The afterlife, from what I know, is neither better nor worse than our lives in the physical world.
It’s simply a different level of existence with different experiences.
One difference I am aware of is that we can’t really screw things up over there like we can over here. No hatred, no addictions, no lies, etc.
In that regard, the afterlife is definitely a better place than here.
On the other hand, there isn’t romantic love, sex, creating physical works (music, painting, buildings).
And apparently our souls really like to do those things!
Our souls want to leave the physical world a better place than when they entered it, and they are willing to come back more than once (reincarnate) until they achieve the goals they set for themselves.
Most people who believe in an afterlife agree that our spiritual selves (our souls) are the highest level of consciousness we can achieve.
Our souls wish to learn, create and experience the physical realm. The only way to do that is by joining with a physical body.
The soul has an identity and a personality.
So does the human form our soul chooses to inhabit – to bond with.
And they aren’t the same, nor do they always have the same goals.
The joining of soul and physical form results in a near constant clash and/or struggle to find our “purpose” in life.
We know intuitively that we’re here for a reason, but that information (the soul’s intentions) is sometimes blocked or blurred by what our physical bodies and minds are experiencing.
And the ego (the physical mind) has its own agenda, as well.
The afterlife isn’t intended to be our permanent residence.
It’s a community, a processing center, a learning center, etc.
It isn’t a retirement village.
It’s a nice (and necessary) place to visit but your goal is to either go back and have more experiences or to re-join with The Source (the “Higher Power”).
The concept of Heaven, with gold streets and nothing but laughter and love, isn’t entirely correct. The imageries and cosmologies created in many different religious traditions were created to give people something to look forward to as their “final reward” for good behavior on Earth.
The true final reward is your soul having completed everything it set out to do.
There’s so much more to see and do, and our souls know this.
There’s so much good work to be done, to make this world a better place, and our souls know this.
And now you do, too.
